Unlike California, gold was not just in rivers and streams but in its vast, great mountains too, drawing in way more attention. The U.S and Great Britain governments quickly saw this boost and decided to take a greedy route by taxing and pressuring the territories Because of this, Political parties in these regions assembled to create a secret government, planning to secede from the union, and become and independent state.
