Description
-_-_-_----------D.N.----------_-_-_ 🪻Duchy of Northumberland🪻 -_-_-_----------D.N.----------_-_-_ The Duchy of Northumberland's origins lie in the Anglo-Saxon Kingdom of Northumbria. After the Norman Conquest, the Percy family became the dominant force in the region as Earls of Northumberland. They were key figures in defending against Scottish invasions and were embroiled in rebellions, including the Rising of the North. The title of Duke was created in 1766 for Sir Hugh Smithson, who married the Percy heiress. He adopted the Percy name and arms. The Duchy's lands are concentrated in North East England, including the iconic Alnwick Castle. Throughout the 19th and early 20th centuries, the Duchy managed its vast agricultural and mineral estates, navigating the industrial changes that affected the region, solidifying its status as a major landowner and a pillar of the English aristocracy. -_-_-_----------D.N.----------_-_-_ Northumberland Penthouse, USA EST. 2024 | RE-EST. 2025
