The organization was formed primarily by former student activists and exiles. ABSDF was established to oppose military rule and to advocate for democracy, political freedom, human rights, nationwide peace, and the creation of a federal system in Myanmar. Its objectives are rooted in resistance to authoritarian governance and long-standing political repression.The organization operates an armed wing, which has engaged in armed resistance and cooperated with other opposition forces in Myanmar.
