Description
Strathmore Atomic Corporation (SAC) is an American energy company headquartered in Piketon, Ohio, founded in 1954 as a subsidiary of Strathmore International to operate gaseous diffusion enrichment facilities under contract with the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission. SAC transitioned into commercial nuclear power generation in the 1960s, commissioning its first reactor, the Piketon Generating Station, in 1967, followed by the Ridgeline and Calloway stations through the 1970s. In 1989, amid growing interest in renewable and low-carbon energy diversification, SAC acquired the Merrow Valley Hydroelectric Company, a regional operator of four dams along the Kanawha and Merrow Rivers in West Virginia and Ohio. Two further acquisitions followed, the Cascade Basin Power Company in 1994, the smaller Tannerville Hydro Group in 2001, consolidating SAC's hydroelectric holdings into what the company began internally referring to as its "Water Division".
