Activated on 1 November 1940, the battalion is currently stationed at Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. It operates under the 2nd Marine Division and the II Marine Expeditionary Force. The battalion’s mission is to provide mobility, counter-mobility, and survivability support to the Marine Division.
