Description

11th Airborne Division, "Angels." "Saviors of the Airborne" The 11th Airborne Division, nicknamed "Angels", was officially activated on the 25th of February 1943 at Camp Mackall in North Carolina. It consisted of the 511th Parachute Infantry Regiment, the 187th Glider Infantry Regiment, and the 188th Glider Infantry Regiment. The 11th Airborne Division was the major Airborne unit within the Pacific Theater and successfully conducted the raid on Los Banos and rescued the internees. After the war, it was chosen by General MacArthur to be the leading occupying force in Japan.
