中華民國國防部是主管全國國防事務的最高軍事機關，直屬行政院，負責建軍備戰、維護國家主權與領土安全，統轄陸、海、空軍及相關軍事部隊。在總統（三軍統帥）指揮下，由國防部長命令參謀總長執行軍隊指揮。國防部下設多個司局、參謀本部、全民防衛動員署，以及國防大學、中科院等軍事機關機構。The Ministry of National Defense of the Republic of China is the highest military authority in charge of national defense affairs. Directly under the Executive Yuan, it is responsible for military buildup and preparedness, safeguarding national sovereignty and territorial security, and commands the Army, Navy, Air Force, and related military units. Under the command of the President (Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces), the Minister of National Defense orders the Chief of the General Staff to execute military command. The Ministry of National Defense comprises several departments, the General Staff Headquarters, the National Defense Mobilization Agency, and military institutions such as the National Defense University and the Chung-Shan Institute of Science and Technology.
