𝐏𝐑𝐄𝐌𝐈𝐄𝐑 𝐂𝐎𝐑𝐏𝐒 Neopolitan Line Infantry 𝐒𝐔𝐌𝐌𝐀𝐑𝐘 "Royal African" In 1803, black immigrants to France from the West Indies and Saint-Domingue were grouped into a battalion called the "Pionniers Noirs". When the French client state of the Kingdom of Naples (under King Murat) was established in 1806, the battalion was increased to regimental strength with French Officers. The regiment's first major action came in the Russian invasion of 1812, and afterwards put a stalwart defense as part of the infamous Battle of Leipzig. It had a reputation as the most effective regiment in the Kingdom, and the Royal Africans followed King Murat until his demise. As line infantry, the men are expected to fight in tight, disciplined formations, using punishing volleys of musket fire.
