| 𝐃𝐨𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐋𝐢𝐧𝐞. | Est. 1870. Founded in 1870 as the Mississippi and Dominion Steamship Company, the Dominion Line successfully linked British ports to Canada and the Mediterranean, carving out essential trade corridors. After decades of maintaining a reliable and steady presence, the aggressive expansion of larger rival syndicates left the company unable to compete independently. Facing corporate irrelevance, the Dominion Line was purchased in 1902 by American banker Theodore Winfield, along with other lines to try and monopolize the North Atlantic shipping trade. He would realign its routes to support his larger flagship companies, and the line began to take off drastically during the early 1910s by monopolizing the expanding Canadian passenger trade.
