Colony of East Indies #13205131
Description
In 1931, the International Olympic Committee selected Paris to host the 11th Summer Olympics. Originally, the government decided merely to restore the earlier Olympic Stadium of 1916, with Renault S.A. again retained to do this. When the monarchists came to power in 1933, they decided to use the Olympic Games in 1936 for propaganda purposes. With these plans in mind, Emperor Renault ordered the construction of a great sports complex in Paris named the "Renault Sports Field" with a totally new Olympic Stadium. Architects of Renault S.A. remained in charge of the project. Construction took place from 1934 to 1936. When the Renault Sports Field was finished, it was the largest sports complex in the world. It consisted of (east to west): the Olympic Stadium, the Obelisks, and the amphitheater, in addition to various places, buildings and facilities for different sports (such as football and gladiatorial combat.
