Also known as the Batallón/Regimiento de la Muerte (Battalion/Regiment of Death), this unit was formed in Vigo on March 23rd, 1809 from volunteers and a company of line regiment from Z a mo ra, which had recently returned from Denmark, as its cadre. It is notable for its skull & crossbones shako plaque and its motto "Fight to the death against the French invaders".
