Organized from earlier Lao military formations developed during the French colonial period, the FAR was responsible for defending the Kingdom’s sovereignty, maintaining territorial security, and supporting the government during a period of profound political and military instability. The FAR consisted of the Royal Lao Army, Royal Lao Air Force, and Royal Lao Navy, alongside specialized and paramilitary formations that operated throughout the country. During the Laotian Civil War, the armed forces fought alongside allied and irregular formations against the Pathet Lao and North Vietnamese forces. ➵➵➵➵➵➵➵➵➵➵➵➵➵➵➵➵➵➵➵➵➵➵➵➵➵➵➵➵➵➵
