Description
The Village of Harrison, now City of Harrison, was established in February of 1860 by Albert Wilson and Charles Harris, as a trading post. The settlement quickly expanded with the construction of Harrison Mills, a sawmill and flour mill, establishment of Fort Harrison, and arrival of the Western Montana Railroad, and was eventually in January of 1902, incorporated into the City of Harrison. Growth continued with the opening of the University of Montana, in September of 1895. Following it’s transfer to the State of Absaroka it was designated as the state capitol leading to significant population growth, and in December of 1908 it was designated a regional headquarters for the United States Forest Service. Today, the City of Harrison continues to serve as the capital of the State of Absaroka, county seat of Cascade County, headquarters of the United States Forest Service’s Northern Region, considered a hub for education, government, tourism, industrial, lumber, and outdoor recreation.

Growth
Growth history is still building. We hold one measurement for this entry. A trend needs at least two, taken days apart — so this will fill in on its own rather than being estimated. We do not publish numbers we have not measured.
