The 6th Infantry Division, nicknamed the Red Star Division, was originally formed in 1917 during World War I as part of the U.S. Army’s expansion to provide infantry combat power in Europe, and it was later reactivated in 1940 for World War II, serving primarily in the Pacific Theater in campaigns such as New Guinea and the Philippines, specializing in jungle and amphibious warfare.
