1940s|1st Special Servicе Force #362047337
Description
The 1st Special Service Force was officially activated on July 9, 1942, at Fort William Henry Harrison in Helena, Montana. It was formed as an elite, binational commando unit comprising American and Canadian soldiers to execute Project Plough, a high-risk sabotage plan proposed by British inventor Geoffrey Pyke. The unit's primary purpose was to conduct unconventional warfare behind enemy lines in winter conditions, specifically targeting vital infrastructure like hydroelectric plants in occupied Norway, oil fields in Romania, and mountain passes in the Italian Alps to tie down enemy resources.
