Description

Pomona, named after the Roman goddess of fruit, was first settled in by Ricardo Vejar and Ygnacio Palomares in the 1830s. By the 1880s, Pomona started to bustle with the introduction of industrialization and railroads within the Cochella Valley. In 1888, the City of Pomona was incorporated. The City of Pomona is a producer of most citrus fruit in the Cochella Valley. It is regarded as the "Queen of the Citrus Belt". The City of Pomona is a moderately hilly region with many natural landmarks, such as the Bonelli Lake and a landmark mountain which hosts the Pomona Mining Company.
