Description
Officer Candidate School was established by the U.S. Army in 1941, just before the United States entered World War II. It was created because the rapid expansion of the Army caused by the war led to a severe shortage of commissioned officers. Traditional officer training programs could not produce leaders fast enough, so OCS was designed to quickly commission capable enlisted soldiers to meet the urgent leadership demands of World War II.
