The Middle Assyrian Empire #10262014
Description
Assyria in the late 1000s BCE is in a transitional period. Though once rulers of Babylon in the south, the Babylonian rebellion was a success, leading to the Kassites, a nomadic mountain peoples taking control of Assyria's former conquests and adopting Babylonian culture. Though this loss does not signal a decline for the Assyrian state, as in 1237 BCE the Assyrians achieved a flawless victory at the Battle of Niḫriya, allowing the Assyrians to rapidly grow their empire in the direction of Hattusa itself. For now Assyria's greatest rivals include the Hittites, still bitter from their loss against the Assyrians, they pledge to cast fear and bronze into the hearts of Assyrian armies. As well as the Babylonians in the south, Assyria will surely want to recapture their lost territory, though all attempts so far have been futile, as the Kassites are not an easy peoples to battle against.
