Description

(Strength and Supremacy in the Skies.) The Soviet Air Forces were the primary aviation branch of the Soviet Armed Forces, responsible for achieving air superiority, conducting strategic and tactical air operations, and supporting ground and naval forces. Operating throughout the Cold War era, the VVS played a crucial role in interceptor defense, ground attack missions, reconnaissance, and strategic deterrence. Soviet pilots and air crews stood as the first line of offense and defense in the skies of the Union.

Growth

2 measurements spanning 37 days, net -1. Dots are measurements; the straight line between them is drawn to join them, not to claim we know the path taken in between — snapshots are recorded only when a count changes, so gaps mean “no change observed”, never “interpolated”. The vertical axis spans 4–5 and does not start at zero.
